Colour has a powerful effect on both our mood and personal style. Some days, neutrals help us move through our routines with ease; other days, bold colours uplift or energise us when we need it most.
When I design Mad Nomad garments, colour is such an intentional part of my process. I don't chase trends or pick what's popular in the moment. Instead, I'm drawn to shades and prints that have staying power and bring us joy, energy, and resonate with our daily experiences. And because I use a lot of deadstock fabrics, I never know exactly what’s going to be available - for me, that’s part of the fun!

Take the Trailblazer and Follow My Lead Wide-Leg Pant as an example. Initially, I was drawn to a black stretch linen for its flexibility. BUT after testing the fabric, I wasn’t happy with how it behaved. The texture was too stiff and uncomfortable and I couldn't get it to soften. And comfort is very high on my priority list when designing. So, I pivoted to a non-stretch linen, which opened up more colour possibilities and allowed me to explore bolder options, making the design and testing process exciting (and truthfully, a bit nail-biting at times). |
Dressing with colour is about creating harmony between what you wear and how you feel. Whether you love mixing prints and clashing colours or you prefer a pop of colour against a neutral outfit, there’s no wrong way to embrace it.
As I write this, I'm realising that I want to expand on how to mix and match colours, so stay tuned for a future post on this topic.
Understanding how colour impacts your wardrobe is one thing - knowing how to style it is another! Let’s look at a few ways to make the most of the emerald green linen suit pieces.
You can dress it up for an evening out by wearing a solid column of colour (or neutral) underneath, and a pair of heels or wedges, or dress it down with a neutral white t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. The emerald green pants can easily be toned down with a neutral coloured t-shirt, denim jacket, and casual footwear, or pair them with a printed shirt, layered with a vest or jacket for a more creative or smart casual look.

The same can be done with the khaki version of the suit. A white t-shirt maintains neutrality, while introducing a red vest top or breaking it up with a coloured pant can add depth and drama, whichever best reflects your mood that day.
